Dallas, Texas. One desk, one phone number.

What a cleanup quote should refuse in writing.

Some quotes wander into a report a bank will accept. That is a different errand from cleaning a file.

Where the refusal sits on the brief

The refusal line is a buying tool. It tells you the quote knows its edge.

Five lines on the brief
01 of 05AccountsWhich balance sheet accounts the quote will actually touch
02 of 05Filed yearWhether a year already filed stays filed
03 of 05LoginWhose name the subscription stays in when the work stops
04 of 05refusedRefusalsWhat the quote will not invent, sign, or start running
05 of 05End stateThe file, the hand back, and the first ordinary month
The marked line is the one this page is about. Prices stay off the rows, including prices we were shown on someone else's quote.
CFOThe October read, once the file will sit still
ControllerThe close and the return from that same file
Accountants, and the reserved workThe five lines a cleanup quote has to name
Reserved reports sit at the base as work this desk does not take. The seat above still reads the file.

The short list

Audits, reviews, compilations, examinations of prospective figures, agreed procedures, and any writeup that assures the financial statements. That work is real. It is not offered here. The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy lookup is the outward pointer, and we would rather end the conversation than stretch the word.

What else a quote should decline

An inventory count it will invent from memory. Payday it will start running. A login it will keep after the project. Those are refusals for a different reason. They are still worth having in ink.

The long list, which does have a page here

The accounts a scope names. The filed year, left or reopened on purpose. The login handed back. The end state, including the first ordinary month. The Texas 20th on a Texas file. The project bought with an end, rather than as an open tab of hours.

A quote is not a signature

Marking up a cleanup quote is ordinary buying work and it doesn't come with a CPA license. Audits, reviews, compilations and any report that gives assurance on your statements belong to a firm that holds one.

If a quote you're already holding promises one of those, we'll say so before a file gets shared and point you at the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy lookup. Payday isn't run from this desk either. The full wording is on the disclosures page.

Source. Texas Occupations Code sections 901.451, 901.453 and 901.456 set what a signature on statements requires, read 29 September 2026 while marking up cleanup quotes.

Breadth, then the edge

A Tax CFO is the controller and CFO seat for an owner-run business with the tax work inside it, so the books, the return and the plan come from one desk and the October number is decided before the year ends.

Breadth is the long list from one chair. Height is knowing the short list is a different chair, and saying so while the quote is still a piece of paper.

Out loud

The quote I liked may have been selling a signature. I want that said while the file is still mine.
